If you could find a better venue in the United States to host a collegiate tournament, I would be surprised. The UCLA Archery Club hosted the tournament in the middle of the campus on a beautiful field. The organization aspect was very good with few delays. UCLA outdid themselves with the leader board. It was made of vinyl and had Velcro on it so that each archer’s name, school, and score could easily be moved around on the boards. The banquet was attended by Mr. Jim Easton, Mr. Don Rabska and their wives. Mr. Easton helped present the awards. College archers aren’t used to getting so much attention, but it was a welcome sight! The annual board meeting is held at USIACs each year. This year there were some changes in staff. Kari Granville was elected Chairman of the Division, with Bob Ryder serving as co-chairman. Kathy Eissinger, who has supported and helped the college division did not run for another term. Bob Pian from Arizona who is also actively involved as the Vice-chairman of JOAD was appointed to be the JOAD/High School liaison. The high school/JOAD clubs can look forward to a smooth transition into college with the leadership we will get from Bob Pian. Andy Puckett, JMU Archery team staff member, was voted in to return as the East regional representative. Nikki Stull did not run for the West region representative and the position was filled by Greg Redhouse from Dine’ College. No other positions for the board were up for re-election or appointment. Besides the selection of the WUAC and the All-American teams, the tournament also yielded the FITA round winners, the Overall National Outdoor Champions and the team round Champions.

Using Coach Frank Thomas’ explanation for the various team scores and awards, the overall team score is based on the individual and team results. The individual results are based on the number of archers in each division. If there are 50 male recurve archers the first place finisher would get 50 points and second place would get 49 and so on. A school can only score points for their top three archers in any division.
In the men’s and women’s team round (see below for mixed teams rules) the points possible are established by multiplying the numbers of schools in each division by 10. If there are 19 teams in men’s recurve the top finishing team would receive 190 points second place would receive 180 and so on. A team is defined as a school having at least one archer in that division. Teams that field full teams will receive their score by their placement in the team elimination round. Teams with less than three archers will start their placement and the spot below the last place team for the team elimination. Their order of finish will be determined by their score(s) from the FITA round.
Mixed team is based on combining the FITA score from the top two male and female archers from each division (compound and recurve). A school must have at least one male and one female in the same division to be considered a team.
A school that fields a full team will have 10 scores, 4 individual scores (men’s recurve and compound and women’s recurve and compound) and 6 team scores (men’s recurve and compound and women’s recurve and compound and mixed teams in compound and recurve). Whew!!! Let’s get to the Champions!!
