The Western Regional Collegiate Championships were held at El Dorado Park this past weekend (22-23 April). Hosted by Biola University with extraordinary support from Saddleback Archery Club, the tournament was a huge success. The weather was excellent and the tournament field, judging and general running of the tournament was great.
54 archers competed in the men’s and women’s compound and recurve divisions. After the dust had settled the 2006 Western Regional Champions are Lindsey Pian, female recurve, Ashley Vortuba, female compound, Ted Harden II, male recurve, and Jake Hall male compound. Taking home team awards were Stanford, Dine’ College, and Cal State Long Beach. Top finishers in the Qualifying round were Lindsey Pian, female recurve, Dakota Sinclair, male recurve, Ashley Vortuba, female compound and Jake Hall male compound. Rookie of the Year honors were awarded to Yolyncia Yazzie, Dine’, female recurve, ----, female compound, Arvis Hunt, Dine’, male recurve, and Chris Krause, CSULB, male compound. **The Rookie of the Year results are pending clarification from the tournament director.
The Honorary All-West Regional Team was named with Dakota Sinclair, Ted Harden, Michael Rael, *Peter Ho, Stanley Cheng, male recurve; Lindsey Pian, *Rachel Kirby, *Stephanie Gilmore, female recurve, Jake Hall and Fray Gray, male compound, and Ashley Votruba and Heather Chick, female compound. *Results are pending final clarification from the tournament director.
ASU Coach Kari Granville was named the West Region Coach of the Year and also voted to be the Collegiate Division National Western Regional Director.
